Pre-Operative Clearance in Vienna at our Group-Practice

Before a planned surgery, hospitals and surgeons usually require medical clearance for the operation. This examination is carried out for your safety and ensures that your health is in the best possible condition for the procedure.

At our group practice Internist-Nord.at in Vienna, we perform surgical clearances promptly, thoroughly, and in accordance with the latest medical guidelines.

Procedure for Surgical Clearance

The following examinations are performed at our practice as part of the surgical clearance:

  • ECG – Assessment of heart function

  • Blood tests – e.g., blood count, coagulation, liver and kidney values

  • Lung function assessment – Evaluation of respiratory function

  • Medication review – The internist checks whether regularly taken medications need to be adjusted or temporarily discontinued before the surgery

Depending on the type of planned surgery, additional tests may be necessary, such as an X-ray or specific laboratory values.

When should surgical clearance be obtained?

The surgical clearance should be completed within 14 days prior to the planned procedure. Please make sure to inform us of your surgery date when booking your appointment so we can schedule the clearance in time.

Why is surgical clearance important?

Medical clearance allows potential health risks to be identified early and helps prevent possible complications during or after surgery. It provides the surgeon and anesthesiologist with important information about your current health status.
