Mother-Child Pass Examination in Vienna at our Group-Practice

Mother-Child Pass examinations are scheduled medical check-ups during pregnancy and up to the child’s fifth year of life. They serve as a preventive measure for the health of pregnant women and young children, ensuring the well-being of both mother and child. Moreover, completing the 10 required examinations is essential to receive the full childcare allowance.

As part of these examinations, there is an internal assessment included in the Mother-Child Pass, which should be conducted by an internist. This internal examination of the mother typically takes place between the 17th and 20th week of pregnancy.

During the examination, the mother’s heart, lungs, blood pressure, and other vital parameters are assessed. If necessary, a cardiac ultrasound is also performed. Should it be required for any reason, the patient may be asked to return for further evaluation during the 30th to 32nd week of pregnancy or even after childbirth.

Process of the Mother-Child Pass Examination with the Internist

This mother-child passport examination takes place in the middle of pregnancy, approximately between the 17th and 20th week of pregnancy. This examination focuses on the mother’s pre-existing conditions and symptoms to identify specific risk factors during pregnancy and address them early.

The examination particularly focuses on:

  • High blood pressure (hypertension) during pregnancy
  • Heart valve defects
  • Increased risk of thrombosis
  • Gestational diabetes
  • Proteinuria (elevated protein excretion in urine)
  • Risk assessment for pregnancy-related poisoning (pre-eclampsia)

If necessary, additional tests may be performed, including:

  • ECG
  • Cardiac ultrasound
  • 24-hour blood pressure monitoring

If needed, blood tests may also be performed during the internal examination, such as checking iron levels, vitamin D levels, and thyroid function.
