Thyroid Ultrasound in Vienna at our Group-Practice

Thyroid ultrasound is a painless and radiation-free diagnostic procedure that evaluates the thyroid gland and surrounding tissues. The test determines the size of the thyroid gland, identifies nodules, and assesses their characteristics, such as size and structure. Additionally, the ultrasound provides valuable insights into potential autoimmune diseases, including chronic thyroiditis, Graves’ disease, or Hashimoto’s thyroiditis.

What Happens During the Examination?

The patient lies on their back with their neck slightly extended to provide optimal access to the thyroid area. A special gel is applied to the neck to facilitate smooth movement of the ultrasound probe and enhance image quality. The physician moves the probe across the neck to capture real-time images displayed on a monitor.

What Can Be Diagnosed?

Thyroid ultrasound can detect:

  • Enlarged thyroid gland (goiter)

  • Thyroid nodules (benign or malignant)

  • Inflammatory conditions like Hashimoto’s thyroiditis

  • Autoimmune thyroid disorders

Duration

The procedure takes about 10 minutes and is entirely painless, and patients can resume their daily activities immediately afterward.
